GEOGRAPHY: A country with a total area of 110.9 thousand square km, situated in the south-east part of Europe, on the Alkan Peninsula. To the North it has a border with Romania, to the south - with Turkey and Greece, to the west - with Serbia, and Macedonia. To the east it is washed by the waters of the Black Sea.
CLIMATE: Moderate - continental, in the endmost southern regions - with a transition to Mediterranean. The average temperature in January is from -2C to +2C. In July - about 25C. The average annual precipitation is about 400 - 600mm/sq.m.
LANGUAGE: Official language - Bulgarian.

RELIGION: Christian Orthodox Church, there are also Muslims - Sunits.
POLITICAL POSITION: Republic with a parliamentary government. The head of state is the President, the permanently acting high body of the legislative power is a one-chamber parliament / National Assembly.

MAIN LANDMARKS: In Sofia - the Botanical Museum in the National Botanical Garden, the National Archaeological Museum, the National History museum, the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov".

The traditional local wine-growers prefer red varieties of wine.
